RE: Front or rear bunkhouse .

We wanted the bathroom by us so even though I like the front bunk models, they weren't for us. We bought the rear bunk slide model in my sig and we've been very happy with it. We opted to pass on the solid wall because our daughter is very young still, but with older kids, the solid wall w/door is nice. We never use our rear 1/2 bath because again, she's too young and it's another tank to empty.

RE: Bed liner and 5th wheel Hitch???

No. The very experienced hitch guy we used said don't do it. We got a spray in bed liner, then installed the hitch and it works great.

RE: Fantastic bedroom fan, yes or no ???

This is not what you asked, but get 50 amp service and a 2nd AC in the bedroom if you can. It was the best thing we did. It's hot in Northern CA and last week we did an equally hot trip to AZ. We have the bedroom AC, the living area AC and a fantastic fan in the living area as well. The ACs get more use for us than the fan. I wouldn't not have the fan though.

RE: 1st Baby - Need Camping Advice

I recommend a white noise machine. Whether we're in the camper or at grandma's house, we keep it on to drown the sound of our activities out during nap/sleep time and keep our daughter sleeping longer.

5th wheel backing and an idea

We just got back from our 2nd trip in the new 5th wheel. We have a 34 ft unit. It took us at LEAST 20 mins to back it into the spot. It was DH's 2nd time backing this rig. Later that evening a couple of rigs came in and one of the guys was a commercial driver and backed his 5er into the spot perfect with one try. I'm glad they weren't there to see our attempts! ;) But that gave me an idea...why aren't there driving classes you can take to learn to back the 5th wheel? Or maybe there are? Sit with someone who knows what they're doing and show you, in person how to back that sucker up?

how to keep dining table from sliding open?

Does anyone have an idea to keep the dining room table from sliding open during travel? We have a table that extends and it's always open when we get somewhere.

RE: Durango 5th wheels by KZ

We really like our Durango 325bh, but we've only been out on 2 trips. We looked at many brands including Jayco, Forest River, Crossroads, Keystone etc. We wanted a bunk unit and to stay under 35 ft so that's what we were shopping. We have had a few minor problems: a vent cap came off the roof, one of the sinks is slightly leaking (DH tightened it and it seems to be gone now), the fuse for the landing gear blew on the first trip (but not since), one of the screws attaching a blind popped out (DH fixed with a molly) and the oven was put in so a tab at the bottom didn't go under the oven, but dug into the cabinet below instead. So far we feel the quality has been very good on this unit. It feels solid and roomy. The larger fridge is great, we have the dinette table and chairs and those are solid and very residential like. The bed was great, but even better after we put a foam topper on it. We're getting ready to do a 2000 mile trip to Phoenix/Grand Canyon and we can't wait! So far we think KZ makes a nice unit and if we ever upgraded we'd look at their Montego Bay or Escalade units first.

RE: What brands of tires to look at for new fiver?

Our rig came with Milestar. We swapped them out for Maxxis before the first trip. We have 16" wheels from the factory. I know Interco is a good brand that makes off roading tires and I've heard they are going to be making trailer tires soon.

RE: NEW TOW VECHILE QUESTIONS

We have an 08 Chevy 2500 4wd and we had to lower the pin box on the trailer to the lowest notch to get enough clearance over the bed rails. We have barely enough room at that setting. We are using a pullrite superglide so there is no hitch adjustment and the axles are already under the springs. We do not sit level either. We ride a bit nose high.

RE: Bathrooms

We travel with our toddler and wanted a split bath. DH can be showering while I'm putting my makeup on at the sink. I can keep an eye on the child in the main part of the trailer. Plus, those 1 room baths never have enough counter space for me and I spread all my junk out onto the bureau next to our sink. Right now it works best for us.

RE: Toddler's and Screen Doors

Bill: The next thing that's going to happen once you get the door latched shut is the screen is going to get pushed out. Here's what I did to save our door screens. Couple of pieces of aluminum and a florescent light diffuser from Lowes,Menards,or Home Depot cut to fit. Haven't replaced a screen yet. http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL992/4288072/19581591/315315532.jpg http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL992/4288072/19581591/315315539.jpg Thank you for this! What an excellent idea! I love this forum....

RE: Toddler's and Screen Doors

Does your assist handle swing toward the door? Our stair assist grab handle lifts and swings out of it's against the trailer position into the parallel to the steps position. We are also able to lift and pull it in FRONT of the door. We reach through the screen slider deal, lift and swing it so it blocks the screen door. The screen door pushes open only an inch or two. The problem is remembering to do it every time. And we still forget. On our last trailer, DH installed slide locks like you see in public restrooms. You could reach in from the outside, slide it locked or unlocked. A bracket was mounted to the frame and another on the screen door itself. High enough out of her reach, but still allowing us to lock/unlock from outside.

RE: GAS Prices!!! I sold my rig, my F-250 is next

That's too bad. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll come up with other ways to make memories with your girls! At the same time, everyone makes choices. Some people have to make more choices than others. My mom doesn't have a cell phone or cable TV because she has to budget her social security income. She'd rather have cigarettes. My sister doesn't get a newspaper or have internet. She'd rather have cable tv and medical insurance for her son. We all get to decide what's important and make our choices accordingly. Some of my favorite memories are those from when we had no money and even had to have a garage sale to come up with money for our honeymoon. We had free plane tickets from frequent flyer miles from my husband's job and we gathered up everything we could sell to pay for our cut rate rooms. Now I sit in front of our (gulp) very expensive entertainment system in our huge expensive house, and I think back to how truly happy we were in our tiny duplex sitting on the floor on Friday nights watching movies with a pan of rice krispie treats. I remember the days when I had nothing in the fridge. And my income was $600 a month and my rent was $400. And I wondered if I should buy food or toilet paper. And I stole toilet paper from my employer and bought food. I don't know where I'm going with this. I can now afford $4.00 a gallon. Well, $4.50 because we have a diesel. I can afford $6.00 a gallon. But I was happy when we had nothing and I could be again. Maybe someday we'll see you on the road again.

RE: power awning are they good or not?

I don't know anything about hanging lights or tilting or disabling at control boxes. All I know is that I like anything that makes setup and breakdown as quick and easy as possible, and for us that's a power awning. :) The ease it provides is well worth any downsides for us.

RE: crossroads cruiser

We almost bought one. In fact, I had made a deal on one and backed out to buy the KZ Durango. It came down to picking another manuf that offered a floorplan we liked better with more available options. I was able to get some things on the Durango that weren't available on the Cruiser. For the weight and price point, I thought the Cruiser was definitely the nicest unit we looked at.

RE: KZ Durango LX vs Cedar Creek Silverback

We looked at the Silverback and ended up with the Durango 325bh. We weren't impressed with the quality of the Silverback (maybe it was just the one we viewed). The Durango seemed to have so much better fit and finish. Plus the 2 year warranty and a company who I understand stands behind their product. We looked at a lot of manuf (Jayco, Forest River, Crossroads to name a few) but the Durango had everything we wanted and then some. We're very pleased with it so far.

RE: Took the dive yesterday

Congratulations!! After a season with a 1/2 ton and a TT, we bought a 3/4 ton Chevy and a KZ Durango 325bh 5th wheel. DH was reluctant at first to give up his 1/2 ton, but after seeing how much easier the larger, longer, heavier 5th wheel tows and how much room we have, we couldn't be happier. And we're thrilled with the Durango, even though we've only had it out once. Enjoy!
